Laura Corrigan

An acupuncturist by education, Laura was born with the gift of heightened energetic sensitivities and intuitive capabilities that allow her to go beyond treating her clients physical symptoms and truly heal the cause of discomfort and illness. She became interested in the science of acupuncture as a way to integrate her gift with a centuries-old proven method of healing.

Laura attended the prestigious New England School of Acupuncture, the oldest accredited institution for Chinese Medicine in the United States, where she earned Masters Degrees in both Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine. Years of study, combined with her natural gifts, allow her to lead her clients to greater physical health and well-being by helping to release old physical, mental and emotional patterns. Using a combination of acupuncture, moxa therapy, cupping, gwa sha, tuina/massage, electric acupuncture, craniosacral therapy, shamanic healing, medical qi gong, Chinese herbal medicine and reiki, Laura helps her clients sustain a higher level of functionality across all aspects of their life: physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.

A compassionate healer, Laura works through her heart and mind as well as her hands and fingers.

Laura is incredible. I have had significant back pain for at least the past ten years and after only a few sessions the pain, uncertainty, and aches are GONE. I've had years of PT and massage therapy and nothing has worked like acupuncture. Before if I'd attempted to move something, I would have thrown out my back for days. Now I can do whatever I want without that fear. Laura has helped me with my allergies, stress, energy, vertigo, joint pain... the list goes on!

Q&A with Laura Corrigan

Question: Tell us about your practice, and what makes a visit with you different from other acupuncturists?
Answer:
I offer a unique combination of acupuncture along with cranial sacral therapy, reiki and Chinese herbal medicine. My mentor, Dr John Myerson who helped start the New England School of Acupuncture, would say I practice shamanic healing as well. Shamanic healing means that I’m interacting with a client’s spirits and guides. I am also able to tune in deeply to what is happening in the fascia; with the combination of acupuncture and cranial sacral I am able to help people’s bodies release blockages held within the tissue for a variety of reasons. My specialties include the back (lower and upper), knees, digestive issues, fertility, stress management, tinnitus, shoulder pain, depression and anxiety. Acupuncture works really well for depression and anxiety which is not something I think most people realize, but I have helped people get off of their medications with the supervision of their psychiatrist.

Another way to look at it: if someone hurts themselves and they are having a terrible day, their body is much more likely to hold on to that trauma. Alternatively, sometimes people hold onto pain because it keeps them connected to someone they love/loved. This can be a strong, unhealthy attachment that needs to be cleared. I have the ability to listen in to the body’s needs and release stuck emotions and pain.

Over my decades of practice, I have learned about different patterns in people and I usually know how to rebalance those patterns. Even when working on constitutional weaknesses I am able to help strengthen your qi to support these types of imbalances. I use herbs to help support the treatment and nourish the body in between treatments.

Question: What should someone expect from a treatment?
Answer: Most of the time after the first treatment people feel very relaxed, maybe a little “buzzed.”  The reason for this is that endorphins and other neurochemicals are being released during a treatment. I once had a man tell me he couldn’t stop smiling afterwards. Other times people feel sleepy and relaxed. It’s a good idea to give yourself some time to allow the first session to kick in; meaning, preferably you are not running back to the office but have the time to relax and absorb the results.

When I am working there are times when occasionally someone feels restless or unable to stop thinking. This is ok and totally normal, as sometimes acupuncture and energy healing push thoughts through your mind and system to process them faster.

Question: Tell us about your background?
Answer: When I was about 13 years old, I put myself in therapy for two years without my parent’s knowledge; this was the beginning of my personal healing journey. My family has a background in psychic abilities, medicine and trauma. I had put myself in therapy because I had been mildly physically abused and wanted to move out. What was the most amazing part of this experience is that my father had hit me the night before I started therapy; after that, he never laid a hand on me again. This was eye opening for me to see that my actions of self-care had a powerful effect on my relationship with my father. I didn’t have to tell him I was in therapy, he felt something had changed and he apologized three years later for his actions. At that moment my relationship with my father was healed.

I studied a little bit of everything and ended up with a BA in Anthropology  with a double minor in philosophy and theatre arts… Now what do you do with that? One day in my last semester of college the idea of being an acupuncturist and energy healer hit me -- I remember this idea moving through my body like a lightning bolt. literally.  I applied and, within a short time, was accepted to New England School of Acupuncture, one of the oldest and most prestigious acupuncture schools in the country.

In the summer of 2000, I began my studies at NESA and graduated with a MAOM (Master’s in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine). I learned through my meditation practice that it is not my place to judge, I learned from my qi gong practice to smile and focus on the positive for where your thoughts go your qi also goes. I learned from healing others to be grateful for all of my blessings, even when things may not appear to be a blessing at first. I know there is a lesson in all of our experiences. I am confident that I can help you on your path.

These insights have helped me to tune in and listen to people’s bodies. I had a client come to me last fall, he’s someone who has come to me for back pain, tinnitus, and autoimmune issues as well as stress management. He has run a successful business for decades. He reached out to me because he was beginning to feel like he was cursed; he was being blocked with permits, financial issues, etc. He came in and I immediately felt his fears were blocking him, so I began to clear the energy he had been holding in his chest with energy medicine. I didn’t even need to touch him, yet he could feel something happening - energy was moving in his chest. Then I got him on the table and started listening in more to his body. He hadn’t mentioned it but his left knee was talking to me. I placed my hands there and he exclaimed “how did you know? I forgot to tell you but that knee has been giving me problems!” I used a combination of acupuncture, reiki and cranial sacral to heal his body, mind and spirit. A few days later he called to tell me that everything was going his way! He got the permits they told him he wasn’t going to get, money started coming in, and his knee was feeling great! That’s the beauty of using more than just acupuncture - I was able to help make change in many areas of his life:  not just a physical pain but the energetic and emotional ones as well.

Acupuncture is a phenomenal medicine that has been around for thousands of years. What makes me different is that I became an acupuncturist to practice energy medicine. I knew there was a science behind it that I appreciated and I believed others would be drawn to it, too. Once I had accomplished a successful practice in acupuncture, I began to study other forms of energy healing and today I am able to blend these learnings with my gifts as an acupuncturist. I have a gift of getting people to stop thinking and heal. It’s something that brings me a lot of joy. I also love exposing people to feeling energy. Many people have never felt energy moving through their bodes but when you do it’s a magical thing and I think  many people want to feel more of that, to feel more connected to themselves and to their life force energy.

Question: What inspired you to pursue your profession?
Answer: I’ve always had a great desire to help others. I took time off from college to do a year of community service with City Year. This is where I first heard MLK’s quote “We can all be great because we can serve.” I knew service was in my blood and that I wanted to add more positivity to the world, I wanted to be a beacon of light and help others waken up to their greatness! Also in the early 1990’s I had good friend whose mother had become an acupuncturist and another good friend who suffered from chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia who found her acupuncture sessions invaluable. I also had a friend pass away at 25 and was brought to a spiritualist church, I was told by a medium that I needed to work in a medical field , I had literally just applied to NESA so I figured I was on the right path. How can you go wrong when you are using a medicine that uses your bodies innate abilities to heal? Quantum physics is proving that everything is energy, which was something I knew intuitively from a very young age.

I greatly appreciate the work of Dr. Joe Dispenza and love it when clients are open to focusing on their full transformation. Life is magical and so are our bodies. I have seen over and over again how stuck emotions can create pain and disease in one’s bodies. Ideally, we work to prevent this, but when suffering has caught up with us I can help one reduce the pain and guide you on your way back to a healthy place of balance.

A fertility goddess! As a health writer, I've been lucky to receive care from many practitioners. Laura Corrigan is among the very best! I'm confident that her acupuncture served as a catalyst for my twin pregnancy—without needing any IVF. Her vast knowledge of treating pregnant women, without inducing harm, saw me through all of the aches, pains and headaches I experienced throughout my pregnancy. Then, when western medicine said it'd be impossible for my breech twin to get into a proper, head-down position prior to delivery, Laura's energy work turned my baby! I could feel it happening during the session and, the next day, an ultrasound confirmed it. I went on to carry my babies full-term and deliver them without needing a c-section. They are healthy, happy, wonderful girls...thank you, Laura!
