Treatments

Traditional Chinese Medicine views the body as a small universe with five major interconnected systems, and includes various forms of herbal medicine, acupuncture, diet and nutrition, cupping therapy, gua sha, massage, and more. Each system is represented by an element: Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, Water. Collectively, these systems/elements are called the Wu Xing. The association of these elements is far from random; when the body is in balance the systems have a cyclical “affinity” (Water helps the tree (Wood) to grow which, in turn, feeds Fire which returns to Earth, etc.). When one or more systems fall out of balance, symptoms emerge from the antagonistic relationships that develop. The systems are said to be in “enmity,” a state which can cascade into other systems (Water suppresses Fire, Fire melts Metal, Wood breaks Earth, etc.) and result in illness, displaying symptoms as constellations or patterns across multiple systems. Treatment using various modalities can restore the proper flow between systems, relieving the ailments.

Acupuncture

During an acupuncture session, you lie clothed on a table and thin, barely perceptible needles are inserted in various parts of the body corresponding to points designed to balance your meridian system. Once the needles are inserted, the acupuncturist leaves the room, allowing time for the needles to remove blockages, thus allowing Qi energy to flow freely.

Acupuncture is one of several ancient practices to channel Qi and remove blockages of this “vital energy” for the natural relief of pain and for healing. Acupuncture and other forms of vital energy manipulation predate recorded history and are estimated to be approximately 4,000 years old. Western medicine is no longer skeptical of the efficacy of these forms of treatment and is considered safe by the AMA, NIH, and NCCAM “when administered by well-trained practitioners using sterile needles.” The biggest difference between eastern and western practice is that the eastern practices treat the mind-body as a whole whereas the western practices focus on specific symptoms, diseases, and organs.

Acupuncture/Energy Healing

During a session that combines acupuncture with energy healing, Laura remains in the room for the entire appointment, tuning in to imbalances in the body and. in particular, one’s fascia. Every injury or negative moment in life, however seemingly small, gets held onto by the fascia; over time the buildup of these imbalances can cause acute or chronic pain and other issues, both physically and mentally. Laura’s gifts allow her to see your blockages and, using a combination of energy healing modalities, help release this buildup of tension to help realign your physical and energetic structure. In addition, with cranialsacral therapy, she works on rebalancing the cerebral spinal fluid which circulates around the brain and spine, influencing and nourishing the nervous system and organs. This is called the craniosacral rhythm; when it is unbalanced it can lead to an inability to focus, cloudy fogginess and organ systems potentially not functioning properly.

First Treatment

Every client must undergo an initial appointment that includes a comprehensive health review, consideration of all presenting health issues and a thorough overview of the body’s needs using a combination of acupuncture, cupping, gwa sha, electro stimulation, moxa, cranialsacral therapy, reiki, and energy work. If Chinese medicines are recommended, Laura will share which ones and why.

Following the health review, a treatment plan of recommended frequency and modality will be presented to address both presenting symptoms as well as other conditions discovered during the course of the initial treatment.

Acupuncture/Energy Healing

Each follow up treatment is based on length of appointment and is completely customized for every client. It is based on your body’s overarching needs, as well as short-term symptoms that may appear during treatment such as muscle ache, stress, or the common cold. We begin each treatment with a pulse and tongue check, as well as a conversation about current issues. Laura then uses those cues, as well as her intuitive abilities, to customize each treatment to your body’s current needs while also working on larger issues. Each treatment may include a combination of acupuncture, cupping, gwa sha, electro stimulation, moxa, cranialsacral therapy, reiki, and energy work.
